Christmas Party Themes

It seems like there are more types of holiday parties than ever before. Gone are the days of a simple Christmas theme. While the choices may seem overwhelming, having your gathering center around a theme is a great way to personalize your event. You can incorporate several ideas into one party, stick as closely to a theme as you'd like, or create a unique soirée loosely based on a pre-established theme. Here's a list of the most popular holiday party ideas:

Ugly Sweater Party - Bust out your vintage Christmas sweater circa 1983, or find a new cheesy frock for as low as $10 at your local retail store or thrift shop. Hold a contest for ugliest sweater. Award your winner with a Peachtree Petals gift card!

Reverse Christmas in July - It's still early in the winter season, but the colder temperatures, ice storms, and even snow are already obnoxious. Host a Reverse Christmas in July party to revive the warmth in your inner circle. Adorn your party venue with tropical floral arrangements from Peachtree Petals, especially the new Permanent Botanicals collection made of exquisite silk flowers that'll transition from season to season. Along with tropical flowers from Peachtree Petals, add in some summer themed decorations to your Christmas tree like starfish ornaments, a beach ball tree topper, and snorkels. Serve Caribbean Jerk. marinated kabobs and mojitos. Round out this celebration by playing The Beach Boys' Christmas album to bring the feeling of summer to your party even in the dead of winter.

Trim the Tree - Maybe this Christmas you've moved into your first place and are starting from scratch with Christmas decorating, or perhaps you've grown tired of your existing decor. One way to spruce up your home this holiday is to host a Trim the Tree party. Invite a few of your closest friends and family members over and ask them to bring some decorations to trim your tree with. Serve appetizers and a Christmas themed drink to spread the holiday cheer. Remind your guests to stop by Peachtree Petals for unique, handcrafted, centerpieces, arrangements, and more perfect for holiday decorating!

Christmas Movie Marathon - What makes Christmas films so special is their limited availability any other time of the year. For six weeks a year we can pull out our Christmas favorites and relive their magic. Select a list of 10-12 of your favorite Christmas films and have your guests vote on their top two choices prior to the party. Tally the votes and select the top three films. Have guests wear their favorite Christmas pajamas, make some Snickers pop corn, and serve a cocktail with a cranberry twist to top off the ambience.

Whatever your holiday plans this year, Atlanta Florist, Peachtree Petals is here to help. Be it decor for a holiday party, a gift for your favorite party host, stocking stuffers, and more, the staff at Peachtree Petals is committed to assisting you with your holiday needs. Our Staff's Favorite Holiday Picks

Where has time gone? There are only two weeks left until Christmas! It’s never my intention to procrastinate completely on my Christmas shopping; on Thanksgiving Day I dutifully map out what I want to give to those on my list and include which stores I’ll need to visit in order to do that. The weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas seem endless; I convince myself there’s still time! My weekends soon fill up with holiday parties: the cookie exchange, the ugly Christmas sweater party, the holiday engagement party, and soon I find myself without time. Peachtree Petals might not be your first thought when you realize your holiday shopping list is longer than the days leading up to the Christmas holiday, but luckily for you, Peachtree Petals has something for everyone on your list. Poinsettia Day is December 12th

Poinsettia Day is December 12th. This is a perfect reason to send your loved ones a gorgeous poinsettia as an early Christmas present. Peachtree Petals offers several poinsettia arrangements to fit every budget.

The poinsettias began their relationship with the Christmas season in 16th Century Mexico. According to one legend, a girl who was too poor to give a gift on Christmas was inspired to gather weeds from the roadside and place them in front of the church altar by an angel. Once she had done this, she noticed bright red blossoms beginning to sprout from what had just moments ago been a simple pile of weeds. These weeds became beautiful poinsettias. The tradition continued in the 17th Century when friars in Mexico included the plants in their Christmas celebrations. It is said the star-shaped leaf pattern symbolizes the Star of Bethlehem, and the color represents the blood shed by Jesus during the crucifixion.

Paul Ecke Jr. is cited as being responsible for advancing the connotation of poinsettias and Christmas. He changed the floral industry by shipping these Christmas flowers by rails and air for the first time. He sent free plants to television stations for them to display on air from Thanksgiving to Christmas, and even appeared on television shows himself to promote the plants.

Today, the poinsettia is a staple of holiday décor. This small plant invokes the nostalgia of childhood Christmases spent at the home of loved ones, or the window displays at the local department store as you rushed to make last minute purchases while trudging through the gently falling snow. The staff at Peachtree Petals desires to create this holiday feeling and continue your tradition by creating gorgeous poinsettia arrangements which can be delivered locally the same day as you place your order for free. National customers can take advantage of Peachtree’s economical flat-rate delivery service.

If poinsettias are not a part of your holiday traditions, you can still send a loved one a fabulous holiday arrangement on Poinsettia Day, or any other day! Peachtree Petals is offering other great holiday arrangements perfect for someone on your holiday giving list. Browse their comprehensive website, www.peachtreepetals.com, to view some of the spectacular holiday arrangements like their Holiday Celebrations bouquet, or the Season’s Greetings bouquet. Each of these gorgeous arrangements adorn the colors of the season and are artfully arranged in unique vases making this the perfect holiday gift to let someone special know you’re thinking of them this season.

Whether it be National Poinsettia Day, the Christmas holiday, or just because, let the talented staff at Peachtree Petals assist you in selecting the right gift.

Wedding Ideas for November

If you are having your wedding in November, there is no reason why you can’t have the wedding of your dreams. Although it is colder than the rest of the year, this is still a beautiful month for a wedding. With the right November Wedding Ideas, your wedding can be simply unforgettable! Below are just some of great ideas for your November wedding.

Attire – One of the first major areas of having a November wedding is the attire itself. You and bridesmaids’ dresses will be sleeveless or short-sleeved. As the bride, you may have a long-sleeve dress. Either way, more than likely it will be chilly during the month, therefore, it is best to dress accordingly, making a capelet or shawl part of the attire. Since you know this is highly probably, make sure you select gowns for you and your bridesmaids that a capelet or shawl can be worn with. If it is warm on your wedding day, you can simply take it off, especially in regards to outdoor photos. Also, Select gown colors like creams, plums, browns, burgundies, or jewel tones to compliment the season.

Location – No wedding is right without having the perfect wedding location. Find a location that is appropriate for the season, such as somewhere historic or with meaning. A historic inn or restaurant with a fireplace is excellent for the wedding reception. Vineyards and orchards are great options as well. Since it is November, try to select a location with valet and comfortable parking.

Food – Your November wedding definitely must have the right food. One good November wedding idea is to have a traditional, yet elegant, turkey dinner. Another option is pot roast or pork loin, with mashed potatoes, stuffing, and turnips. A cream soup would be delicious, such as butternut squash, along with a delectable salad full of diced apples, nuts, roasted pumpkin seeds, and cranberries. For desert, a great choice for November would be pumpkin pie or apple crisp. Lastly, carrot cake or spice cake would be very fitting for November as a wedding cake flavor.

Favors – The favors are always in order for every wedding and there are some excellent November wedding ideas for them. Votive candles, with a vanilla or pumpkin scent, will compliment your November wedding theme. Small packages of candied nuts or caramel apples would be ideal as well. You can also venture outside of your November wedding theme and give your guest wedding date key chains, chap stick, or mugs.

Flowers – Of course you can not forget the flowers! For your November wedding, choose flowers that are rich with autumn colors, such as red, burgundy, yellow, brown, and orange. Sunflowers and Mums are some of the top picks, yet you can always go with rust-colored Asiatic Lilies and even Roses. Make your November wedding centerpieces tall, filled wheat and feathers, bowls of gourds or hollowed pumpkins filled with flowers. The November wedding ideas for flowers are endless!

Flowers for your wedding must be of the highest quality to look their best. For your November Wedding Flowers, you don’t have to look another further. Atlanta FloristPeachtree Petals does it all! Fall Wedding Tips

For decades summer has been the choice wedding season for most brides. However, with the rich inspiring colors of fall, the changing of the leaves, more flower options than ever before, and the nostalgic feeling the simple smell of cinnamon and nutmeg produce, more brides are opting for a fall soiree.

Don't Be Afraid To Ask: Since the busiest season for wedding venues is usually in the summer, many wedding venues offer deals to fall brides. Venues will be trying to generate as much business as possible during this slower season, so don't be afraid to ask for special pricing for your venue.

Go Natural: Possible the biggest advantage to saying "I do" in the fall is the season's natural beauty. Incorporate fall specific nature elements into your wedding. The staff at Peachtree Petals can help you incorporate things like twigs, leaves, apples, pumpkins and gourds into your centerpieces, bouquets, and wedding photos. Rely on the staff at Peachtree to assist you utilizing these natural elements and to create unique arrangements for your special day.

Don't Be Afraid of Color: Along the lines of incorporating natural fall elements into your day, don't be afraid to play with the many colors of fall. Fall colors extend far beyond simply orange and brown. The season has so much more to offer. Start with a neutral palette like champagne, gold, and taupe, and then incorporate rich plums, greens, and royal blue for a unique pop of color.

Feast on Fall: Continue the fall theme throughout your meal. Start your guests off with vegetable soup in bright fall colors (think bright orange tomato soup, verdant pea soup, and rich purple beet soup), cranberry brie appetizer bites, and sweet and savory roasted mixed nuts during cocktail hour. Move into the entrée consisting of rich, hearty comfort foods like individual chicken pot pies, rich macaroni and cheese made with aged cheeses. Round out the meal with savory desserts like salted caramel apples, pumpkin pie tarts, or rich fudge-y brownies.

Halloween Flowers

A recent consumer habits study shows that Halloween is now second only to Christmas in terms of consumer spending. Consumers are spending more on candy, decorations, and costumes than ever before. This is evidenced in the chain of Halloween stores popping up in empty storefronts of strip malls, the multiple aisles devoted to the holiday at your local big box store, and the advertisements you’re receiving in the mail. While you might not want buy a foam gravestone for your front yard, or adorn your foyer in faux cob webs, Peachtree Petals has gorgeous Halloween bouquets to decorate your home or office this season.

Peachtree Petals is an FTD certified Master Florist, which guarantees you the freshest flowers of the highest quality, and FTD trademarked bouquets. The Boo-Quet is perfect for Halloween. This arrangement features bi-colored orange roses, orange carnations, burgundy mini-carnations and chrysanthemums, nestled inside of lush greens. These rich fall colors are accented by a “Trick or Treat” pic, a ribbon, and glass ball pic to tie in the festive holiday theme.

Another featured Halloween arrangement is the Boo-Quet Pumpkin. This is a gorgeous way to celebrate Halloween. Bright bi-colored orange roses, red Asiatic lilies, burgundy mini carnations, butterscotch chrysanthemums, and leafy greens arrive in a ceramic pumpkin container. Rounding out this delightful display, a haunted house pic and black birds and black stick details add a “spooky” element to this Halloween arrangement.

The knowledgeable staff at Peachtree Petals would be happy to create a unique arrangement to add Halloween cheer to your home or to send to a loved one. Using seasonal flowers such as roses, sunflowers, and chrysanthemums, in deep fall colors like red-orange, plum, cranberry, and gold, the staff at Peachtree Petals can create a distinctive arrangement just for you.

If flowers are not the right gift for your recipient, try sending them some of the gourmet chocolates The Atlanta florist offers. The coveted candy on Beggar’s Night has always been the candy bar, all the better if a King Size candy bar was bestowed upon you, and as adults your tastes surely are not much different. Peachtree Petals features handmade truffles and candies from Sweet Shop USA. You can create your own assortment, or browse from a variety of pre- packaged candy.

Flower Lasting Tips

When you receive a floral arrangement from Atlanta's Florist, Peachtree Petals, you can expect the highest quality flowers to arrive. Our FTD Master florists pride themselves on this superior quality and would like for you to enjoy your new arrangement for as long as possible. Here are some guidelines to follow to ensure your gorgeous arrangement lasts.

  • Cut all of the stems. You’ll want to pay special attention to woody stems, like the ones on roses. Cut a 45 degree angle with sharp scissors or a knife, about half an inch from the bottom of the stem. Once all stems are cut, place them into deep, fresh, cool water.
  • Any foliage that is below water level will more than likely fall off into the water where it will rot. By cutting off any foliage below water level, you will lengthen the life of your beautiful arrangement.
  • Unless your vase is crystal, you’ll want to use bleach or vinegar to ensure the cleanliness. If your arrangement from Peachtree Petals arrives in a vase, you can rest assured it meets this cleanliness standard, but if you want to use it again, we recommend cleaning it with bleach or vinegar, drying it completely, and storing it in a dry place.
  • Every two days you will want to change the water, clean the vase, and cut the stems again. While this may sound like a lot of work, you will see a significant increase in the life of your arrangement by completing these simple tasks.
  • I'm sure you've heard not to keep your flowers in a warm area (like your car), but keeping them in an area that is too cold is just as damaging. While a cool area may help your blooms last longer, very cold temperatures (in a car overnight in December, for example) can be just as hazardous.
  • Store flowers away from direct sunlight. Putting your flowers in a window can act like a greenhouse and shorten their lifespan.
  • If flowers begin to look limp, recut the stems by a couple of inches, put them in deep cool water up to their necks, and store them in a dark place for a few hours. This should be enough to noticeably rejuvenate your arrangement. Rearrange your stems when you’re ready to display them again.
  • If roses start to go soft or limp around the neck, wrap them in paper so they stand straight. Next, you’ll cut off an inch or so at the bottom and in a heat proof container, stand them in two inches of boiling water for two to three minutes. Then, while they’re still in the paper, cut again just half an inch off of the bottom and put in deep cool water up to their necks. Store them in a dark cool place for a few hours and they should be standing again.
  • Flowers that have many blooms on one stem, like freesias and lilys, will last longer when you remove the older flowers that have begun to wilt. Simply cut them using a pair of sharp scissors where the flower meets the stalk.
Peachtree Petals guarantees all of their floral arrangements. We’re sure you’ll enjoy the highest quality of flowers and foliage when you give or receive one of our gorgeous arrangements. Browse Peachtree Petals’ extensive website at www.peachtreepetals.com to place your order.

Don't Forget the Groom

The groom's cake is a tradition that started right here in the South. Years and years ago, single women would take home pieces of the groom's cake, stash their slice under their pillows, and dream about their own husbands-to-be. If you're a Steel Magnolia's fan like myself (and if you're from the great state of Georgia, I suspect you are), when you hear the term "groom's cake," you instantly think about that gruesome armadillo shaped, red velvet cake. The embarrassment of that tacky cake is a great comedic scene in the film when the bride shrieks in horror as she sees the tail cut from the armadillo's body with red velvet cake showing from under the icing. Regardless of your groom's hobbies and interests, you can incorporate a groom's cake into your reception that will affectionately represent your new husband while maintaining the elegance and class you've worked so hard to achieve. Here are some tips to keep in mind when deciding on a groom's cake design.

Start Your Search Early: Because groom's cakes tend to be more intricate in shape, design, and materials used than the regular wedding cake, you'll want to give your cake designer plenty of time to create your masterpiece. Just like selecting your wedding cake, be sure to ask for samples of their work and check out testimonials from former clients.

Shop Around: Check out many different bakeries. Start with the bakery you've selected for your wedding cake. Often times bakeries offer discounts on subsequent cake orders. This might not always be the case however and you'll want to shop around to several different bakeries.

Keep it Personal: For many grooms, the groom's cake is the only aspect of the wedding day where his personality is displayed independently from the bride's, so keep the groom's cake personal. Think of things that say something about your future husband's hobbies, interests, career, etc. Scour the internet for inspiration. You'll be able to find cakes in the shape of Star Wars character R2D2, comic book covers, video game consoles, Legos, sports stadiums and more.

Keep it Flavorful: While you had to consider the tastes of your guests for your wedding cake, the groom's cake should focus on his tastes. What flavors does he like? Many couples opt for a chocolate and peanut butter combination. Keep it as simple as possible since you'll also be serving a larger cake to guests.

Surprise Him: Many brides are using the tradition of a groom's cake to surprise their husbands-to-be. While a couple can decide together on the groom's cake if they so choose, many brides are taking it upon themselves to surprise their guys with this personal reception touch. Surprising your groom with his groom's cake can be a nice way to show him just how much you love him.

Cake Table Décor: Once you've decided on a style and flavor for your groom's cake, you'll want to consider how to display it. Many brides decide to display the groom's cake on the same table as the wedding cake. Allow the competent staff at Peachtree Petals to incorporate your wedding colors and centerpieces onto your cake table to complete your reception décor. The experienced Atlanta florist at Peachtree can select the best quality flowers and foliage to compliment both of your cakes and integrate your wedding theme and style.

The groom's cake can be a great southern tradition to incorporate into your wedding, but no matter what you choose to do, the staff at Peachtree Petals is here to help you with your special day. Choosing The Right Wedding Planner!

Weddings are priceless and are one the most memorable events a bride will have in life. From the beautiful gown of the bride and brides' maids, to the wedding decor and celebratory reception, weddings will always be unforgettable. Every bride wants their wedding to be all that they've dreamed of and more. As beautiful as you desire your wedding to be, it will not just happen. It does have to be carefully planned out by the right wedding planner to make your big day a success.

Having a wedding planner is not necessarily needed. You can plan your own wedding and cut your wedding costs. However, with a wedding planner on your side, you are able to spend your time on the things which matter most. Here are some tips on finding the right wedding planner for you.

End-To-End Planning - You want to find a wedding planner that is able to plan your wedding from beginning to end. That wedding planner will catch your vision for your wedding and be able to execute it. This includes contracting vendors for wedding decor, wedding flowers, catering, music, and more. The wedding planner will handle all the details required to make the occasion perfect and seamless.

Event Design - The right wedding planner will be able to be creative and put together to overall look of the wedding. They will also meet your budget, timelines and handle all of the logistics involved. The wedding planner will design the invites, return gifts, and decor. If you have a wedding decoration theme, the right wedding planner should have experience creating various event designs and show you examples of their work.

Understanding - It is crucial to choose the right wedding planner that can understand what you want for your wedding. This is not something that requires a lot of back and forth explaining your wedding desire. The right wedding planner that understands you, will make the entire process a whole lot easier, especially when it comes to the final product of your wedding. You will have what you wanted and it comes out perfect, not what someone else expected.

Find A Fun One - You want a wedding planner that is going to be cheery and fun! There is already so much to accomplish with planning a wedding, which if not careful, can become very stressful. The right wedding planner is composed, fun, positive, helps you to relax, and will be like a best friend. They will help you to only enjoy the journey, as well as the final destination of your big wedding day. Have the right wedding planner is a must, yet also you can't forget the flowers. Every wedding must have the best wedding bouquets and wedding decor to make it perfect! Wedding Planning Ideas

Lately it seems like technology is changing faster than we can keep up. With smartphones and tablets in the hands of almost everyone, we are constantly interacting with peers, and changing our social landscape. We are starting to see that even weddings are not excluded from this technological phenomenon. For better or worse, couples are integrating technology, especially social media, into their special day. Here’s what we can expect for the remainder of the wedding season and the next.

Facebook Save The Dates: Before the advent of social media, you could expect to receive engagement announcements and Save the Date announcements via snail mail. Today however, many couples are using the speed of technology to quickly announce their impending nuptials with friends and families. By posting engagement announcements and Save the Dates in the form of a Facebook photo album or Vine clip, couples are now able to announce their special news more quickly and to a greater group of people than ever before.

Graphic Wedding Invites: While engagement and Save the Date announcements are going viral, we will probably continue to receive traditional printed wedding invitations, but these too are getting a 21st Century facelift. Alongside the customary details about the ceremony and reception, couples are starting to include things like infographic designs telling the story of their relationship. The technologically savvy couple are also including QR codes in their invitations that link with their wedding websites on Theknot.com and Weddingwire.com. QR codes are also being used to provide guests with directions to the ceremony and reception sites, dinner menu selections, and an easy way to RSVP.

The Registry: The days of walking into Williams and Sonoma with the couple’s registry in hand to find the flatware set they desire may be over. Now as Generation Y and the Millennials begin to wed, we are seeing them registering for trendier and technology based items. Instead, expect to see couples registering for a Nest Thermostat, iPads, and Lockitron.

The Music: One way many couples are saving money on their special day is by ditching the DJ. With copious music playing apps and websites available to today’s tech-driven couples, we can see fewer bands, DJs, and of course string quartets, and more Spotify playlists. In addition to saving money by using Spotify, couples are getting guests involved by including songs they want to hear on their easy to customize playlists.

Photography: Be ready to post all of the candid shots you take throughout the festivities on Instagram using the couple’s customized hashtag. While the bride and groom have painstakingly chosen a great photographer for the ceremony and reception, they still want to feel a part of the celebration through your candid shots. By relying on apps like Instagram, the happy couple can easily set up a hashtag to be included in the action.

No matter the type of wedding you attend or plan, Peachtree Petals is committed to providing couples with the best floral arrangements, décor, and unique treats on their special day. Atlanta’s premier florist provides brides with free wedding consultations to meet their vision and budget.

Summertime Party Ideas

The temperatures are rising and we find ourselves right in the height of summertime. It’s time to throw on your favorite tank top and shorts, call up your closest friends, and host a fun-filled backyard party. Whether you’re hosting a large bash or an intimate affair, here are the trendiest ideas in summertime décor for your next get together.

Arabian Nights: As you’re serving marinated kabobs, dips served with fresh veggies and pita chips, and sipping on a cool drink, they’ll be transported to the Middle East at your Arabian Nights themed summer gathering.

The key to the décor with this theme is seating. Stock up on plush, comfy outdoor pillows where guests can lounge on your back deck. This theme is perfect if you don’t already own a lot of patio furniture. These inexpensive plush seating pillows can be combined with your existing patio furniture. Simply cover your existing patio furniture with slip covers and cushions in the bright color palette of your party.

After adding some flair with outdoor furniture, the transformation of outdoor living space to Arabian party venue continues with the addition of lighting. You can stock up on colorful paper lanterns at places like the dollar store and craft stores such as Michael’s and Hobby Lobby. You’ll can combine your paper lanterns with simple white holiday string lights covered in gauzy fabric for a more muted and romantic lighting.

To complete your theme, consult Peachtree Petals for flowers and summer plants to add to the ambience. Think about a night-blooming jasmine variety to fill the air with sweet scents in your Arabian Night.

Tiki Bar: You might not have the opportunity to travel to your favorite beach spot this summer, but with your friends by your side and these decorating ideas, you can bring that spot to you! Transform your backyard living space into your favorite Tiki Bar.

Start by adding some simple but clever Polynesian touches to your party space, like a raffia skirt around your buffet table. You can find these skirts at your local craft stores, or you can simply make your own. Once your buffet table has been given some festive touches you can display your spread that enhances the island vibes. Think fresh tropical fruits, lots of shrimp, marinated meats, and of course the mai-tais. Use banana leaves, bamboo skewers, and toothpick umbrellas to decorate the food itself as you serve it to your guests.

The staff at Peachtree Petals will help provide the right type of lush vegetation and live orchids to mix with whole pineapples and coconuts to create the perfect Tiki Bar centerpieces. Turn on your island music, and voila!

Christmas in July: If you find yourself humming “Jingle Bells” all year round, and itching to host your next Ugly Sweater party, this Christmas in July themed party is for you. While a Santa in a Speedo might not be possible, these party tips will get you rockin’ around the Christmas tree even in July.

Start by setting up your Christmas tree. Pour some play sand (found at your local hardware store) around the base, and decorate with seashells, starfish, and plastic palm trees. You can create unique centerpieces by forming Christmas trees out of Styrofoam balls and hot gluing on seashells. Be sure to use a plastic starfish at the top for the Christmas star! Next hang stockings next to beach balls and loop Christmas lights with garland and brightly colored summer flowers.

When you've got your décor set up, you can focus on your menu. Try deep frying a turkey outside and serving an icy cranberry flavored cocktail. For dessert serve your traditional family recipe for pumpkin pie, or have guests decorate their own gingerbread beach houses.

Whether you're throwing one of these themed bashes or one of your own, Peachtree Petals is here to help with your summertime party décor. The Best Summer Wedding Dresses

There's nothing like having an amazing wedding dress to put your guest in awe of your beauty, not to mention your husband-to-be. A woman looks her most beautiful on her wedding day! It is only right that she has the most beautiful wedding dress to match.

Right now, it's summer and if you are having a July wedding, you don't want to just wear any dress. There is something called heat all around, and you must be aware that your body could potentially respond the wrong way if you are too hot in your wedding dress. This is just one of several reasons why the right wedding dress matters. Most wedding dresses can be worn year-round because most brides have their wedding indoors. However, summer is summer and there are still some that are better than others to choose from.

Below are some great tips when it comes to choosing the best summer wedding dress for you.

Fit - You definitely want to have a wedding dress that allow you movement during the summer. You also want a light and airy dress. You want to remain cool, therefore, do not choose a dress with long sleeves. Strapless wedding dresses are versatile and spaghetti straps work well, which have the look of a strapless gown as well. Halter tops on wedding dress can be worn, however, if you do not want to bare your shoulders and arms, where a short-sleeve dress. With a short-sleeve wedding dress, it would help to have it knee-length instead of it being more traditionally long. You also want to avoid wearing a dress with too many layers.

Colors - For a summer wedding, you definitely want to have the right colors. Choose a crisp white that looks cool or a variation of it. Rich colors will work well also, such as ivory or cream. Silver accents and gold undertones are beautiful. You can also go for a more non-traditional look by adding subtle color undertones like pink or earth-tone. Be mindful if you are having an outdoor wedding of how the colors will look within the location setting with sunlight as well. Materials - One thing about a summer wedding, once you are in the dress, you are in it on your wedding day. The wedding material is going to matter. Make sure the materials of your wedding dress not only look beautiful, but feel comfortable. You do not want to be occupied with having to bear through your own wedding because of a dress made of material that's too hot and uncomfortable. You want to have cool material that you can relax in. Cotton is breathable and great for beach weddings. Silk is also very lightweight. Silk georgette is an especially sheer type of silk and excellent for layering. Organza is beautiful and has a more defined, tailored look than silk also.

Embellishments - Keep your embellishments on your wedding dress lightweight. Fine lace is a great choice. Avoid too many layers of embellishments, such as beads on the dress and keep them small. It all may be pretty, however, this is the best way to go during your summer wedding.

Even with the best summer wedding dress, you will need the best wedding flowers to match. Peachtree Petals is well-known leader in wedding floral and decor services. From wedding bouquets and wedding centerpieces, to wedding corsages and wedding boutonnieres, Peachtree Petals can meet all of your floral wedding needs. 2013 Wedding Trends

This week celebrity wedding planner, Mindy Weiss, revealed the top wedding trends of 2013. Mindy has planned Hollywood-chic weddings for some A-List celebrities like Nicole Richie, Hilary Duff, Fergie, and Heidi Klum to name a few. From one of the most revered wedding and event planners, here are 2013’s hottest wedding trends.

A Black Tie Affair: This year we can see a return to formality. Perhaps inspired by the recent nuptials of Kate Middleton and Prince William, weddings this year are taking on a more formal tone. You’ll see the return of the black tie, crystal chandeliers, and gold trimmed chargers at dinner. We can also expect to see the return of the full length gown for bridesmaids.

Neutral Color Pallets: Move over pink and orange, there’s a new sheriff in town! Keeping with the formal trend, we’ll see brides moving away from the brighter hues we've grown so accustomed to. Instead we can now expect to see more muted tones like grey and beige with black accents to add a pop and hint of drama.

Metallic Shine: Complimentary of the grey and black coloring of wedding décor and attire, you can expect to receive foil stamped invitations. Brides are delighted to see their name glistening in the light with these invitations. Silver, gold, and bronze metallic shine are added to the muted pallet of the invitations adding a sophisticated touch.

The Menu: We will begin to see couples embracing their heritage in the cocktail hour. Whether it is a Vietnamese or Puerto Rican dish, guests can expect flavorful appetizers with significance to the backgrounds of their beloved bride and groom. In addition to the change in cocktail hour, we’re seeing a new entrée trend emerging in 2013. You might not see the traditional beef or chicken option on your RSVP card included in your foil stamped invite. Instead the most requested meat for the entrée is pork! Braised pork shoulder grilled with black beans, pickled onions, and avocado salsa is a hit with Mindy Weiss’ event planning team.

Planning Your Wedding Reception on a Budget

The wedding day is one of the most important days in a couple’s lives, but with the staggering cost of having a wedding and reception, it can easily seem like the most daunting. With wedding season in full swing, here are just a few tips to help keep the cost of your reception well within your budget.

Location: One of the pricier portions of the reception budget is the location. Try booking locations that are not typically used for wedding receptions like parks, picnic shelters, smaller churches, and civic organizations. Also try booking your venue for days and times that are less common for weddings like Sundays and between noon and 3 p.m. Book as early as possible. Booking early can help you negotiate a better rate. Also be sure to get the agreement in writing to avoid any additional fees later.

The Menu: If having a $30 a plate dinner at your reception just doesn't fit into your budget, try serving h'orderves and appetizers rather than a full meal. Booking your reception for early afternoon not only saves on your location expense, it means guests will be in between lunch and dinner and less hungry than at dinner time, allowing you to serve bite-sized portions. Some of the most popular wedding h'orderves and appetizers of 2013 include:
  • Mozzarella wrapped prosciutto skewers
  • Bite sized grilled cheese sandwiches served with tomato soup shooters
  • Mini twice baked potatoes topped with cheese, sour cream, and chives
  • Iced cocktail shrimp served with a spicy cocktail sauce
You can also save on drinks at your reception. Instead of having an open bar that can cost over $1,000.00, try serving a signature drink. For greater continuity with your wedding party and décor, match the colors of your signature drinks to your wedding colors, or the colors of the season.

Entertainment: For your entertainment think about your talented friends and family members. Are any of them skilled in a particular instrument that would serve as the perfect background music to your cocktail hour? Do you know a talented vocalist that could pen and perform a song especially for your perfect day? If not, do not worry. Think about your venue; if you’ll be tying the knot at a church or civic organization, they will likely have a sound system you can use. Create your perfect iPod playlist and hook it up to the sound system for hours of dancing.

Décor: Save on décor by hitting up craft stores and your local dollar store. Here you’ll find many pre-made options and the supplies necessary to create one of kind DIY pieces. Also be sure to contact Todd at Peachtree Petals, Atlanta's leading florist.
