Weddings are one the most important events of a person's life. Along with giving birth, it holds one of the dearest places in our hearts. Many take great delight in their weddings and will invest the money it takes to make sure their experience is most memorable. Last year wedding cost numbers have showed this to definitely be true, and it's still a high priority for the bride and groom.
The average cost of a wedding in 2012 was a staggering $28,400 reported CNNMoney. TheKnot.com conducted an annual survey of 17,500 couples for the numbers. This is the highest amount for wedding costs since the economic downturn in 2008. The survey showed that expenditures increased in every wedding category, from locations to wedding flowers. "Couples are a little bit more comfortable and able to splurge a little bit more," said TheKnot director Anja Winikka.
Although slow, a better economy resulted in less people in the survey stating it had a negative effect on their wedding plans. Only 26% reported the economy impacted their wedding, opposed to 29% in 2011. The percentage last year is almost 10% less than 2009, which was at 34%. Cost per person spending went up to $204, which is $10 higher than 2011. Spending on pre-wedding meals and dinners increased also. "A lot of couples are having stateside destination weddings," Anja said. "Their friends and family live all over the place. They are planning these three-day weekend events."
Many wedding costs increased and the survey provided a breakdown of those prices. Wedding photography went up from $2,229 in 2011 to $2,379 last year. Videography increased to $1,619 in 2012, which was at $1,486 in 2011. Also, the amount spent on a wedding florist and decor went up to $1,997, which is almost $100 more than in 2011. "They consider it no longer this total splurge, but rather something they feel they need," Winikka said.
